BIKE TO THE ROOF OF EUROPE: THE PICO VELETA (3,396M)
A must have done for all road bikers! Cycling on the highest paved road in Europe in the Sierra Nevada, the south of Spain. In a more than challenging climb, of no less than 46 kilometres, 2,700 altimeters, you bike to the roof of Europe at an altitude of 3,396 meters. As a reward, a spectacular view of the coast of Africa! Where it starts? Straight from your hotel!
During
this special cycling week you will be prepared for the ascent of the Pico
Veleta. The ride is amazing: through rough and varied scenery
cycling to the top at 3,396 meters. Leaving the city Granada behind, which is getting
smaller and smaller. This ascent is unique and
so is the way back: we are pretty sure you will love the reward of your hard
work ‘to fly’ back to your hotel!
The program of the Pico Veleta Special is as follows:
Day 1: Arrival day at the hotel, introduction of Road Cycling Holiday in Spain and a short ride to get used to the bike and the Spanish roads.
Day 2 till 4: These days are dedicated to training for the ultimate ascent. Every training day, after a good breakfast, we will discuss and customize the routes to suite your requirement and to make sure you make the necessary 'climbing' kilomtres before heading to the top. We will leave between 9 - 10 in the morning and will be back at the hotel between 2 - 3 in the afternoon. On the fifth day, the ride will be a little bit shorter, to give you sufficient rest for the ultimate day!
Day 5: On the sixth day, we go for it and we will climb the Pico Veleta! After breakfast and a doble check of the bikes, we will take off. During this day, you will be guided by a car with sufficient food, drinks and materials (up to 35 km because of roadblock for cars).
Day 6: A day to kick off, relax, enjoy the feelig of having climbed to the top of Europe or perhaps a little ride to loose the muscles or a visit to the city of Granada. A day to do what you want before heading off home the next day (unfortunately!).
Day 7: Departure day.
The training days will prepare you well for this ultimate climb. In addition, there is a "car” joining the group during the ride that will provide you with ever food and drink you need and provide you with the best security and care on your way to the top.
During
your cycling week all is been taken care of. This means: awesome customised training
routes, good road bikes (Giant bikes of 2014 or 2015) and a perfectly situated hotel
(with pool). All will be arranged so nothing can and will stop you to reach the
top. We keep the groups small (up to 6 people) in order to guarantee the best
support during this week.
